Special Commissioning Service Sunday, May 20th
On May 20th we will meet, welcome and commission our summer interns from Duke Divinity School, Tori Hastings and J. E. Misz. We will also bless and commission our missionaries Karen Cheek and Donna Poe as they prepare for their mission trip to Zimbabwe on May 21st-30th. We will have a fellowship luncheon after the worship service so you will have the opportunity to get to know Tori and J.E. and to extend your regards to Donna and Karen.
Celebration of our interns and families this Sunday
This Sunday, May 6th, we will celebrate the ministries of our interns Kevin Miller and Daniel Corpening and their families. Daniel and Kevin are both graduating from Duke Divinity School next week and are moving on to appointments in full time ministry. We will recognize them during our worship service and honor them with a covered dish luncheon in the fellowship hall immediately after worship. Please plan to come and express your appreciation for Kevin, Daniel and their families.
CrossWave back at Concord this weekend!
We are blessed to have Crosswave Ministries coming back to our church the last weekend in April (April 27- 29). CrossWave is an outreach of Gateway Christian Fellowship in Raleigh, NC, operating in partnership with families from approximately 20 local churches as a year-round network team. As many of you know, our own Rachel Carter is a member of CrossWave.
CrossWave youth and staff will reside in our church throughout the weekend, spend time in the garden, lead our worship service on Sunday morning and conclude the weekend with a covered dish lunch following the service. You certainly don’t want to miss the Sunday worship service with CrossWave – it is sure to be a very Spirit-filled service! Please plan on being here and inviting your friends and neighbors to join us for the service and for lunch.
Food and Faith Bible Study
A Food and Faith Bible Study led by our ministerial intern Daniel Corpening will be held on Wednesdays in April.
Do you wonder why community gardens are popping up in local churches all across the country? Why does our interaction with God’s creation matter? How does our view of God’s creation affect the way we grow and eat food? Why is the way we grow and eat food important for the way we treat each other as brothers and sisters in Christ? Join us over the next three Wednesdays as we join in sharing a meal and we critically engage these questions. Together we will seek to understand how and why our communion with Creation is important for understanding who we are as God’s beloved children made in His image! This is going to be great time, we hope you will come!

Beans and Rice Supper to support our ZOE missionaries!
Along with Saxapahaw, Bethel, Center and Salem UMC’s, we are supporting a work team of orphans in Zimbabwe as they move toward becoming self-sustaining. As part of our three-year commitment, we have the opportunity to send missionaries from our churches to visit our work team in Zimbabwe this May. On March 25th, Concord UMC will host the other churches in our Southern Alamance cluster for an African style beans and rice dinner at 6:00 PM in the fellowship hall. There will be lots of information, pictures and video, and all of the missionaries who are planning to make the trip will be there for you to meet. Our special guest will be Rev. Greg Jenks, the director of ZOE Ministries. We will be receiving donations that will be divided between all of the missionaries to help them raise funds for the trip. Please plan to come and bring a friend!

Bible study on the Book of Esther
Kim King is leading a Beth Moore study called “Esther: It’s Tough Being a Woman.” The study is held in the church on Sundays from 3:30 – 5:30. Don’t worry if you missed the introductory session on Sunday the 15th. The study will begin in earnest on Sunday January 29th. If you have questions, call Kim at 336-376-9719, or email her at kdking60@gmail.com.
Date changes
We had some incorrect dates for events on our calendar. The Couponer’s small group is NOT meeting on June 29th or July 20th. Also, the garden’s tomato sandwich event has been changed to July 29th. We apologize for the confusion.
